Random Readers

A daytime reading group that meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month from September to June.

At the June meeting the selection of books, location and presenter is decided.. Book selections represent a wide variety of genres. A full book list will be available.

Thursday Walking Group

The Thursday Walking Group walks every Thursday morning year round from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. We generally walk in the city but once a month in the summer and fall we take a trip to the mountains. If you enjoy the outdoors and good conversation, consider joining us.

Book Circle

Book Circle is a non-meeting group. Each month, you get a new book to read, and, each month, you pass on your previous book to a designated person.

The books chosen for the Circle are always new and untried. We pick the books from a variety of types – you could get a mystery, historical novel, non-fiction, graphic novel, biography or some other genre. The cost to be a member is the average cost of the books we buy to supply the Circles. There are usually 8 books per year. Your suggestions will be graciously received at the coffee party but we can make no promises of which ones will be included in the selections.

The charms of Book Circle are meeting authors new to you, reading new books that may or may not live up to the reputation of the author or the reviews, and attending the only meeting of the group (in the spring 2012) to discuss and choose the book you will keep. Come join us!

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch has three objectives: to lunch at different restaurants and cafes around Calgary; to spend time in conversation with other members, and to enjoy both. It is a simple formula but it works well for about 7 lunches from October through to May. We choose restaurants that can accommodate a group from 5 to 18 people and restaurants that will give us separate cheques. We meet at 11:30 – 11:45am on the third Wednesday.

The Lunch Bunch convenor and her co-convenor are responsible for finding a restaurant in the southwest/east and northwest/east alternately each lunch. Then the members who signed up at the September meeting are emailed to advise where the lunch will be. Additionally, an announcement is placed in the CFUW Newsletter.

Fun Cooking

This group puts the stress on “fun”! They meet once a month at members’ homes to enjoy a meal. The hostess prepares the main dish; and may have a theme for the meal. Two or three helpers assist the hostess with the rest of the courses.
